Geelrys is a classic South African yellow rice dish traditionally prepared with turmeric, raisins, cinnamon and sugar, and is commonly served alongside dishes such as bobotie.

Ingredients

• 1 cup basmati or long-grain rice
• 2 cups water
• ½ tsp Organic Turmeric Powder
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• 2 tbsp raisins
• 1 tbsp sugar
• Pinch of salt
• 1 tbsp butter

Method

1. Rinse the rice and add it to a pot with the water.
2. Add turmeric, cinnamon, sugar, salt and raisins.
3. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and cover.
4. Cook until the rice is tender and the liquid has been absorbed.
5. Stir in the butter and fluff with a fork.
6. Serve warm with bobotie, curry, chicken or a South African-style stew.
