Spicy Tomato & Onion Relish is a quick South African favourite, perfect with pap, braai meat, boerewors or grilled chicken. Bird’s Eye Chili Flakes add a fiery kick to this simple tomato-based relish.

Ingredients

• 3 ripe tomatoes, diced
• 1 small onion, finely chopped
• ½ tsp Organic Bird’s Eye Chili Flakes
• 1 tbsp cooking oil
• 1 tbsp vinegar
• ½ tsp sugar
• Salt to taste
• Fresh coriander, optional

Method

1. Heat the oil and sauté the onion until slightly softened.
2. Add the tomatoes and cook for 3–5 minutes.
3. Stir in the Bird’s Eye Chili Flakes, vinegar, sugar, and salt.
4. Simmer for another 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
5. Finish with fresh coriander if desired.

Serve with: pap, boerewors, braai meat, grilled chicken, or vetkoek. 🌶️
